Volumio Music Stream Function Raspberry PI4

The Volumio "Play Here" function which allows music to be played directly to your controlling pc is a "Paid" addon useable only with Subscrition. However a workaround which allows you to stream directly to your pc or any pc via a http volumios stream site is possible . It wil stream to port 8000 on your volumio IP address or "volumio.local IE:- vlumio.local:8000 or volumio-ip:8000

You may also open VLC media player and open the stream within. Click Media / Open Network Stream/ volumio-ip:8000 and enjoy

Note :- this does not enable the play here button in volumio. You must open another tab in your web Browser much the same as if you were using MoodeAudio Music Player.

On a Raspberry PI4 this is the procedure:-

You must edit the conf template or you will lose the functionality after a reboot. Volumio recreates mpd services upon boot so the template edit is required.

ssh into you volumio device

ssh volumio@ IP Address

password Volumio

sudo nano /volumio/app/plugins/music_service/mpd/mpd.conf.tmpl

Psswd volumio

add the following to the ALSA output block and add your HTTP stream block after it,

}
audio_output {
type "httpd"
name "HTTP Stream"
encoder "vorbis"
port "8000"
bitrate "320"
format "44100:16:2"
}

Save and force Volumio to regenerate MPD config:

sudo systemctl restart volumio

or restart the Raspberry

Once retarted check MPD

mpc outputs

volumio@dining:~$ mpc outputs
Output 1 (alsa) is enabled
allowed_formats=""
dop="0"
Output 2 (HTTP Stream) is enabled
Output 3 (multiroom) is disabled
volumio@dining:~$ mpc outputs
Output 1 (alsa) is enabled
allowed_formats=""
dop="0"
Output 2 (HTTP Stream) is enabled
Output 3 (multiroom) is disabled

Visit volumio.local:8000 or Volumi-ip:8000 in your browser and play something in volumio. You will now enjoy the "Play Here" function via a http stream. Without subscription.

Your file will survive reboots and possibly some updates, other times you need to do this process again.

Your file will now look like this :-

###############################################################################

# Audio Output ################################################################

${sox}

audio_output {
type "alsa"
name "alsa"
device "${device}"
dop "${dop}"
${mixer}
${format}
${special_settings}

}

audio_output {
type "httpd"
name "HTTP Stream"
encoder "vorbis"
port "8000"
bitrate "320"
format "44100:16:2"

}

audio_output {
type "fifo"
enabled "no"
name "multiroom"
path "/tmp/snapfifo"
format "44100:16:2"
}

#replaygain "album"
#replaygain_preamp "0"
volume_normalization "${volume_normalization}"
###############################################################################

 Do not be tempted to edit multiroom to Yes in enabled,, you will kill it.. it wont work :)
